Federal Highway Administration Awards $2,057,009 to North Dakota Tribes

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded $2,057,009 to two North Dakota tribal nations through the Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund. The funds are distributed as follows:

• $1,280,819 to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe for the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) 3400 Roadway Realignment Safety Project. These funds will be used for engineering and construction to realign an approximately 0.8-mile section of BIA 3400 to address slope, drainage, and crash history.
• $776,190 to the Spirit Lake Tribe for the Oyate Walkway Thin Lift Overlay & Accessibility Improvements. These funds will be used to restore the surfacing, add accessible landings with detectable warning panels, and improve crosswalks, signage, and pavement markings. The North Dakota Department of Transportation is working on a $20 million project to extend a pathway from Fort Totten to Devils Lake, and the Oyate Walkway which connects to the pathway at two locations.
