BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) unanimously approving a Report and Order today to reduce the regulatory barriers preventing TV white space technology from being utilized:
“The digital divide holds back too many of the students, seniors, farmers, small businesses, and tribes in North Dakota. Allowing greater use of TV white spaces creates opportunities to bridge that divide, and I thank the Commission for taking that step today.”
The FCC amended its rules governing TV white spaces, television broadcasting bands, to allow for expanded use of this spectrum for the delivery of broadband services in rural communities while protecting broadcast television stations and other licensed services from harmful interference. Senator Cramer led a bipartisan letter urging the Commission to support these changes.
