WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a Senate Armed Services Committee member, joined Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) in introducing a resolution in recognition of burgeoning threats to freedoms of the press and expression around the world.

“A free press is vital to the success of any democracy,” said Senator Cramer. “With recent crackdowns on the media in communist countries like China and North Korea, it is important we reaffirm our support for journalists across the globe who seek to provide important information to the public and speak truth to power.”

This bipartisan resolution maintains the centrality of an independent press to the health of democracy and reaffirms freedom of the press as a priority of the United States in promoting democracy, human rights, and good governance.

Joining Senators Cramer, Menendez, and Rubio on the resolution are Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD), Chris Coons (D-DE), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Ed Markey (D-MA), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Bob Casey (D-PA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and John Boozman (R-AR).
