WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) joined Senator John Thune (R-SD) and Representative Dusty Johnson (R-SD) on a bicameral letter urging Attorney General Merrick Garland to continue the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) investigation into the nation’s four biggest meatpackers and provide Congress with updates.
“It is critically important that producers have fair and transparent markets for the commodities they produce,” the members wrote. “We urge the DOJ Antitrust Division to continue vigilance and where possible, provide updates of findings.”
Senator Cramer joined multiple letters last Congress which called for aninvestigation and applauded President Trump when he announced his support for one. The senator discussed this on Fox Business and MSNBC last May and led an op-ed signed by 9 senators on steps to bolster America’s food supply chain.
Senators Cramer and Thune and Representative Johnson are joined on the letter by Senators John Barrasso (R-WY), Steve Daines (R-MT), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), John Hoeven (R-ND), and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Representatives Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), Liz Cheney (R-WY), Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Ashley Hinson (R-IA), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), and Matt Rosendale (R-MT).
