WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) delivered remarks on the Senate floor today regarding Sister Thomas Welder, the longtime president of the University of Mary who passed away Monday morning at the age of 80.
“I come to the floor today with a heavy heart and a fair bit of trepidation,” said Senator Cramer as he began his remarks. “My goal is to pay tribute to someone who is so special, remarkable, beloved, and important to my home state of North Dakota.”
In his remarks, Senator Cramer highlighted moments of Welder’s life and legacy as they are told in her obituary, sharing personal memories along the way. He also encouraged people to take the time to watch some of the inspirational speeches Welder has given throughout the years.
By unanimous consent, Senator Cramer submitted Welder’s obituary and the announcement of her passing into the Congressional Record.
