WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a Senate Budget Committee member, issued the following statement after voting to confirm Shalanda Young as Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget today:

“I had a productive conversation with Shalanda Young ahead of today’s vote, where she confirmed she will not try to use the regulatory process to undermine laws written to protect taxpayer funds from being used for abortion. As long as Congress continues Hyde Amendment protections, she understands it is the law of the land.

“We also discussed the funding process for the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion. A solid partnership with OMB is key to ensuring we get the funding for this project right. I appreciate her willingness to speak with me about North Dakota’s priorities and look forward to working with her now that she has been confirmed.”

Senator Cramer met with Shalanda Young last week and voted to advance her nomination through the Senate Budget Committee earlier this month.
