WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) spoke with U.S. Strategic Command Commander Admiral Charles Richard and U.S. Northern Command Commander General Terrence O’Shaughnessy about developing the newly created Space Force during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

“In terms of the standing up of Space Force, are you comfortable with how it’s going?” asked Senator Cramer. “And how are you communicating with Space Force in terms of helping it be successful in training, equipping, and manning the Force?”

“I am delighted at the decision the nation and the Department has made in putting the necessary attention to space,” said Admiral Richard. “I am encouraged across the board that it improves mission performance overall. The nation wins because we are improving our assets.”

“I think we are already starting to see some of the benefits of this, and we as a nation are very fortunate to have a great American in General Raymond leading it,” said General O’Shaughnessy. “We’re excited about the potential, now that it’s been stood up, of how that’s going to allow us to focus like a laser on space going into the future.”

Senator Cramer also brought up North Dakota’s military bases and asked how they can be prepared for any potential Northern Tier conflict.

“We’re excited about some of the things we’re actually doing right now in your state to support our Arctic operations,” said General O’Shaughnessy. “Some of the things we’re doing with Over the Horizon radars are critically important for us.”
