BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Water, announced today the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is accepting public comment on its inundated and submerged roads policy.

“It’s good FEMA is willing to listen to and work with North Dakotans,” said Senator Cramer. “Recent flooding made many of our roads completely inoperable, leaving citizens in harm’s way and farmers unable to access their fields. This public comment period gives residents and local officials a chance to further express their concerns and develop solutions with FEMA. I urge North Dakotans to participate.”

Senator Cramer has been working with FEMA and relevant state and federal agencies to adjust FEMA’s flooding response efforts to better meet North Dakota’s needs. Earlier this year, the senator brought together state officials and regional representatives of FEMA to Stutsman County to tour flooding damage and hear from county residents at a town hall. Their time resulted in FEMA making positive changes, including a commitment to this proposed policy guidance, but there is more work to be done. Learn more here.

FEMA will accept public comments until October 14. They can be made on the FEMA website.
