BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) joined Senator John Hoeven and Governor Doug Burgum today in kicking off the 13th annual Great Plains and EmPower ND Energy Conference at Bismarck State College’s National Energy Center of Excellence with an energy roundtable.

“Energy security means national security,” said Senator Cramer. “As America continues our revolution in energy dominance, North Dakota is as well positioned as anyone to lead the way.”

During the panel, Senator Cramer discussed the letter he sent to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Neil Chatterjee expressing his concern over the reliability and resilience of our nation’s electricity system. Senator Cramer highlighted the importance of lignite coal, nuclear, and natural gas baseload power generation.

The Senator also mentioned his work with the Administration, including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, on completing rules for the 45Q tax credit.

“North Dakota has carbon sequester investments waiting on the sidelines,” said Senator Cramer. “If these regulations are done right, it will be good for not only the coal, oil, ethanol industries; but also efforts to protect the environment while continuing America’s energy dominance.”
