BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) released the following Independence Day video message:

“Hello and happy Independence Day to you all!

“As we prepare for a day filled with celebration with family and friends, let’s first reflect on the day 246 years ago that revolutionized democracy and freedom sending tidal waves throughout the world. America was born and a representative republic was brought to life when our brilliant Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence.

“I often say that our Founders truly knew what they were doing when they created our more perfect union, from creating three co-equal branches of government to reliance on self-governance, and embedding core values of liberty, federalism, and equality. They fought for a legacy of freedom and, because of them, America is seen as a shining beacon of freedom across the world. We’re the shining city on a hill.

“I have many memories of Independence Day celebrations in my hometown of Kindred. North Dakota’s small towns are second to none in embracing the patriotic spirit of American freedom and democracy, and this was always a big day – especially for young people and their families.

“Of course, our freedom is only possible through the protection of our men and women in uniform and the Veterans before them. We get to live freely because of their sacrifices for our country. I’ll always be grateful for them and I know you join me in that.

“So on this Fourth of July, let’s celebrate America’s greatness while always remembering that freedom is not free. The heartbreaking Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this year and the war that’s ensued has been a stark reminder to all of us. Let’s support and pray for our freedom-loving allies and be grateful for the freedom, democracy, and liberty synonymous with the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on this wonderous day in 1776.

“Happy birthday America. Happy 4th of July to all Americans. God bless the United States of America and may the United States of America always bless Him.”
