BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) announced today the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded a combined $6,219,215 to four tribes in North Dakota for Coronavirus (COVID—19) recovery. Below is the listing of federal funding apportioned through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act:

 

  • Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians in Belcourt -  $2,288,228
  • Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in Fort Yates - $1,739,703
  • Three Affiliated Tribes of Fort Berthold in New Town - $1,307,383
  • Spirit Lake Tribe in Fort Totten - $883,901

 

This HUD investment comes as part of a $200 million nation-wide federal funding allocation in Indian Housing Block Grants (IHBG) and Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) to respond to COVID-19. The total available amount for each recipient is based on funding appropriated under the CARES Act, a bill crafted in the Senate which Senator Cramer helped pass. This funding will be used to help Tribes and TDHEs carry out affordable housing activities to protect the safety and health of their tribal members and communities.
