BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, participated in a congressional panel with U.S. Senators John Hoeven (R-ND) and Steve Daines (R-MT) as part of Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s annual meeting. Basin Electric is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative based in North Dakota, providing electricity to 3 million consumers across nine states.
Senator Cramer discussed the oversight role the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee plays with respect to EPA regulation, the significance of the major questions doctrine at the Supreme Court, and the importance of sound transmission policy.
“The Supreme Court’s emphasis on the major questions doctrine when they struck down the Clean Power Plan cannot be understated! The religious left worships at the altar of climatology, but the Court’s decision is a real check on the ever-intrusive administrative state aimed at shutting down reliable, affordable electricity. Ultimately, their unrealistic policies will lead to blackouts. It’s incumbent on policymakers, states, and stakeholders to push back against this craziness in Congress and the Courts,” said Senator Cramer. “I always appreciate working with rural electric co-ops like Basin Electric. Their model of self-governance is the best, balancing innovation, investment, and cost effectiveness for ratepayers.”
Background:
Senator Cramer participated in Basin Electric’s annual meeting last year and highlighted North Dakota’s all-the-above energy portfolio. He also discussed his vision for an America first energy and climate agenda in the 118th Congress and emphasized how America’s natural resources and ingenuity propel U.S. energy production.
