WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today applauded the Senate for passing bipartisan legislation he helped introduce, the Growing Climate Solutions Act.

“The Growing Climate Solutions Act builds a strong foundation for the development of producer-led carbon markets by helping interested farmers and ranchers get their foot in the door and learn more about the costs and benefits associated with their voluntary participation,” said Senator Cramer. “Producers are the greatest stewards of their land. Our bill gives them another venue to lead by example and get credit for their important stewardship efforts.”

The bill now goes to the House of Representatives. If passed, the Growing Climate Solutions Act will:

  • Create an online “One-Stop Shop” for those interested in carbon markets.
  • Establish a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) certification for private parties, which producers can work with, to generate and ultimately sell their carbon credits.
  • Commit to including a majority of producers and other climate stakeholders on USDA’s Advisory Council.

Senator Cramer is joined by 54 of his colleagues on this bipartisan bill, which is led by Senator Mike Braun (R-IN). It is supported by over 70 agricultural and environmental organizations, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, National Farmers Union, and U.S. Cattlemen’s Association.
