WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement regarding Peter Welte’s nomination to be U.S. District Judge for North Dakota:
“Yesterday Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell filed cloture on Peter Welte’s nomination, meaning the Senate will consider his nomination soon. Peter is eminently qualified and will be filling an important position left open for over a year. I look forward to supporting his nomination on the Senate floor, and I urge my colleagues to do the same.”
Background:
The Senate Judiciary Committee sent Welte’s nomination to the Senate floor in March after his hearing in February. President Trump nominated Welte in January of 2019. The seat has remained vacant since October 12, 2017, when Judge Ralph Erickson began serving on the 8th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals.
