WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), issued the following statement ahead of the expiration of Title 42, an existing authority which grants the federal government the ability to quickly expel migrants on public health bases.

“The Biden administration’s immigration policies have created a humanitarian crisis, threatening the safety and sovereignty of the United States. In 2022 alone, more than three times the population of North Dakota illegally crossed the southern border and tens, if not hundreds of thousands more, are now expected to pour in once Title 42 expires.

“My message to President Biden: step up, follow the law, resume border wall construction, stop catch and release, restore Remain-in-Mexico, work with the Mexican government, and enforce the laws. Under the previous administration, even without Title 42, we did not have this crisis. This catastrophe lies solely on the current administration, and they need to step up and fix it.”

Background:

Last year, Senator Cramer and his colleagues introduced legislation to extend Title 42 until February 2025. Today, Senator Cramer sent a letter with his Senate colleagues to Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Alejandro Mayorkas requesting information on the status of border wall construction and urging the administration to complete it.
