WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator and Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) member Kevin Cramer (R-ND) stressed North Dakota’s Air Guard priorities as he met with Air National Guard Director Lieutenant General L. Scott Rice today.

“North Dakotans know the Happy Hooligans are the finest Air National Guard unit in the nation. I appreciate General Rice’s time to discuss their work and other priorities important to North Dakota’s Air Guard,” said Senator Cramer. “I’m pleased General Rice visited the Fargo command headquarters in March, and I hope to host him on his next trip to North Dakota.”

During their discussion, Senator Cramer and General Rice spoke about the Reaper Operations Center, a potential expansion of the 119th mission, and the Air National Guard tuition assistance pilot program.

North Dakota is one of 14 states to participate in the tuition assistance program, which helps the Guard competitively recruit new members. Senator Cramer added legislation to the SASC-passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) this year encouraging the Air National Guard to provide tuition assistance. He also ensured this NDAA fully funds the MQ-9 Reapers flown in Fargo and Grand Forks. Senator Cramer spoke on the floor earlier today to emphasize the importance of passing this NDAA.
