BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) beginning to accept applications for its Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) today:

“I am glad to see USDA’s assistance program is officially underway. President Trump and Secretary Perdue have worked tirelessly to support our agricultural community, and I encourage North Dakota’s producers to apply.”

Senator Cramer applauded this program when USDA unveiled it in April, worked with the Administration to increase relief payment limits, and has been encouraging producers to be ready to apply since Secretary Perdue announced today’s sign up date last week.

According to USDA, CFAP provides vital financial assistance to producers of agricultural commodities who have suffered a five-percent-or-greater price decline or who had losses due to market supply chain disruptions due to COVID-19 and face additional significant market costs. Producers should apply through their local Farm Service Agency Service Center. While USDA Service Centers are open for business by phone appointment only, FSA is working with our agricultural producers by phone and using email and online tools to process applications.
