WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) advanced Pete Hegseth’s nomination to be the next U.S. Secretary of Defense today. President Donald Trump first announced the selection of Hegseth for Defense Secretary in November, and Hegseth testified before SASC last week during his confirmation hearing.

Hegseth’s nomination will now head to the Senate floor for full consideration. If confirmed, he would oversee a U.S. Department of Defense of over 3 million people and a yearly budget of almost $900 billion, while also acting as the principal defense policymaker and adviser to the President.

“I support Pete Hegseth not only because of his devotion to his faith, family, and country, but because of his lifelong oath to protect and serve our nation,” said U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND).Pete is an intellect and fierce patriot with dust on his boots. Under President Trump’s leadership, he will restore a peace-through-strength ethos respected on the global stage. I urge my colleagues to join me in supporting his nomination on the Senate floor.”
