WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement on Mark Esper being confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. Secretary of Defense:

“I welcome Mr. Esper’s confirmation. We expedited his nomination process because filling this post is vital to national security. I look forward to working with him on our shared priorities of nuclear modernization, Space Force, and the unique capabilities of North Dakota’s military community.”

As the first North Dakotan to serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), Senator Cramer helped moved Mr. Esper’s nomination quickly through committee. During the hearing on his confirmation, Senator Cramer questioned Mr. Esper and defended him against attacks on his character.
