Sends a Strong Message of Support for Establishing a Space Force

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator and Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) member Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) issued the following statement after meeting with Acting U.S. Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan:

“Acting Secretary Shanahan and I discussed the importance of developing a Space Force as a sixth military branch. Space is quickly emerging as a new realm of military conflict. If we fail to assemble a modern and capable Space Force, we run the risk of losing the military and commercial advantages we rely on. I sent Acting Secretary Shanahan a strong message of support for establishing a military branch ready to tackle this new battlespace.”

Next Thursday, the Senate Armed Services Committee will hold an oversight hearing to examine President Trump’s proposal to establish a United States Space Force.
