WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator and Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee member Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement after meeting with Department of the Interior (DOI) Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks nominee Rob Wallace today:
“I appreciated meeting with Mr. Wallace who, if confirmed, will have oversight of the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). We discussed the importance of reigning in the FWS’s unwieldly enforcement of North Dakota’s wetlands. Their heavy-handed, inconsistent approach needs to be changed so they can no longer encroach on our landowner’s private property rights. I look forward to voting on Mr. Wallace’s nomination soon and to working with him from my position as Chairman of EPW’s subcommittee on Fisheries, Water, and Wildlife, if he is confirmed.”
Yesterday, Senator Cramer pressed Mr. Wallace on the FWS’s enforcement of Waterfowl Production Area (WPA) Easements and the unique problems in the Prairie Pothole Region. Mr. Wallace committed to learning more about the issue and expressed interest to coming to North Dakota.
