WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement on the World Trade Organization (WTO) finding China unfairly administered tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) for corn, rice, and wheat:

“For decades China has acted unfairly on the world stage, and American agriculture has paid the price. China’s manipulation of tariff-rate quotas prevented these important North Dakota commodities from increasing their exports, even though the market allowed for it.

“Today’s ruling is another win for our farmers and ranchers and a firm reminder of why President Trump is standing up for American interests on the world stage. While WTO rulings are important, they often take years to be resolved. Improved trade agreements like those the President is seeking will immediately improve market access.”

This is the second victory for the United States this year in the ongoing trade dispute with China. Last month, the WTO found China’s price supports for wheat and grains violated rules they previously agreed to.
