BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and the entire Senate Republican caucus sent a letter to the Supreme Court today in response to Democratic Senators threatening to pack the court if a certain case was not heard.

“Judicial independence is under assault. Democrats in Congress, and on the presidential campaign trail, have peddled plans to pack this court with more justices in order to further their radical legislative agenda,” the letter says. “Democrats’ amicus brief demonstrates that their court-packing plans are more than mere pandering. They are a direct, immediate threat to the independence of the judiciary and the rights of all Americans.”

After the letter was sent, Senator Cramer issued the following statement:

“Like the rest of the Democratic party platform, this court-packing scheme is nothing more than a sloppy regurgitation of a 1930’s failure. Their threat to implement this radical plan if the court does not follow their demands should concern all Americans, and I urge the court to be guided only by the rule of law and the Constitution of the United States.”

Senator Cramer supports amending the Constitution to keep the number of Supreme Court Justices at nine to prevent threats like this.
