WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement after Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to be Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court was reported favorably, by a unanimous vote, out of the Senate Judiciary Committee and onto the Senate floor:
“President Trump called Judge Barrett one of the nation’s most brilliant and gifted legal minds. He described her as a woman with unsurpassed qualifications, a towering intellect, unyielding loyalty to the Constitution, and a record beyond reproach. These last few weeks demonstrate how right he is. After meeting with her, watching her excel at her nominations hearing, and poring over her record, I am convinced Judge Amy Coney Barrett should be confirmed to the Supreme Court. She will be an excellent justice who follows the Constitution and understands the proper role of states in our federalist system. I am grateful she and her family answered the call to serve. When Judge Barrett’s nomination comes to the Senate floor, I will vote to confirm her, and I urge my colleagues to do the same.”
Senator Cramer applauded President Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett and called on the Senate to take up her nomination this year, but he had not offered his official support for her final confirmation until today’s statement in order to receive feedback from his constituents, critically examine her record, and watch her appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Senator Cramer met with Judge Barrett earlier this month and frequently spoke about his desire for a Supreme Court nominee who has the proper views on cooperative federalism and the proper role of states in a federalist system.
