BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, announced the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a total of $1,000,000 from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians for the Turtle Mountain Brownfields San Haven Clean Up Project.

The EPA funds will be used to conduct remediation activities at the Main Hospital of the former San Haven Medical Complex, which is contaminated with asbestos, lead, and polychlorinated biphenyls, affecting building materials, soil, and water.

Background:

In May, Senator Cramer announced the EPA awarded $1,000,000 to the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians from the IIJA which were administered through the Brownfield Cleanup Grant Program. The purpose of the grant was to help eliminate hazardous substances at the Main Hospital on the San Haven complex in Dunseith.
