WASHINGTON – During the Q&A portion of the Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald J. Trump today, U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) asked questions to both legal teams regarding the rhetoric of the managers in the trial, the implication of politicians’ actions as it relates to rioters, and the Senate’s power regarding impeachment. This portion of the trial follows the defense team’s arguments and precedes the closing arguments and final vote, which are expected tomorrow.

Below are questioned posed by Senator Cramer:

  • To President Trump’s counsel: “Does a politician raising bail for rioters encourage more rioting?"

o   Senator Cramer was joined on this question by Senators Lindsay Graham (R-SC), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Roger Marshall (R-KS).

  • To both President Trump’s team and the House Managers: “If the Senate’s power to disqualify is not derivative of the power to remove a convicted president from office, could the Senate disqualify a sitting president but not remove him or her?”

o   Senator Cramer was joined on this question by  Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO).

  • To President Trump’s team: “Given the allegations of the House Manager that President Trump has tolerated anti-Semitic rhetoric, has there been a more pro-Israel president than President Trump?”
