WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) committee member, and his colleagues launched the bipartisan Senate Space Force Caucus today.

“We established the Space Force to maintain America’s advantage in space and protect us from foreign adversaries. It requires Congressional oversight, authorization, and funding to properly develop and carry out its mission,” said Senator Cramer. “Our Space Force Caucus will provide an avenue to craft bipartisan legislative ideas and further support America’s newest military branch.”

The creation of the caucus was announced at an Air Force Caucus meeting with the head of the Space Force, General Jay Raymond, whose first trip as Chief of Space Operations was to visit the space assets in North Dakota at Senator Cramer’s invitation. Senator Cramer will serve as co-chair of the Senate Space Force Caucus with Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) serving as Chair and Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Martin Henrich (D-MN) also serving as co-chairs. The senators have invited their colleagues to join the caucus as well.

Senator Cramer was an early advocate for Space Force, calling for its creation at a SASC hearing in April of 2019. Senator Cramer urged his colleagues to support the plan offered by President Trump, whom Senator Cramer met with last May to discuss this effort. As he and his colleagues were writing last year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Senator Cramer worked with Administration leaders including Vice President Mike Pence and secured the inclusion of three amendments which aligned SASC’s Space Force proposal with President Trump’s plan. This ultimately became law in December of 2019. Learn more here.
