BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) delivered remarks on conservation and private property rights at the America’s Grassland Conference today.

“This conference brought us together to highlight and craft innovative conservation solutions for our nation’s grasslands. I would ask that as we build conservation plans and priorities, we start with the cornerstone of respecting landowners,” said Senator Cramer. “The most successful conservation programs are achieved when the stewards of the land, water, and resources are personally convinced and willingly participate in a shared priority. Anything less fosters resentment and stunts the long-term goals we all share.”

Senator Cramer highlighted his work to advance conservation efforts while giving North Dakotans a voice in Congress, mentioning the expanded conservation title in the 2018 Farm Bill, his subcommittee chairmanship on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, and his advocacy efforts with the Executive branch.

“North Dakotans know better than most how to be good stewards of the land and resources we have been given,” the Senator continued. “Responsible development and cooperative conservation are part of who we are.”

Senator Cramer wrapped up his remarks by emphasizing “cooperative conservatism.”

“Let’s be clear: we all want clean air, clean water and sportsman access on public lands. However, real, effective conservation is done by working with private land owners,” concluded Senator Cramer. “Our government is built on the idea that it is supposed to serve people by protecting life, liberty, and property.”

America’s Grassland Conference is a meeting for hundreds of stakeholders who focus on preserving of our remaining grasslands – bringing together ranchers, conservationists, researchers, educators, policy professionals, and others through three days of talks, discussion sessions, field trips and more.
